Internet Marketing for Local Businesses in Havering, Essex

Helping local businesses to do better online is what I do. I help business owners to achieve the best, most effective online presence for their business. I am based in Brentwood but cover the whole of Essex and beyond. One area that falls under the designation of ‘beyond Essex’ is the London Borough of Havering.

For someone of my age that seems strange. I was born and raised in Rainham. When I married and left the parental home I moved to Hornchurch. If someone asked me where I lived back then I’d say Rainham, Essex or Hornchurch, Essex. For people of my generation I think that’s possibly still true but over the last few years the reference has changed and more often than not now Rainham and Hornchurch are associated with East London by virtue of the fact that they form part of a London borough.

So, to be clear I also help local businesses based in Rainham, Horchchurch, Upminster and Romford.

The original idea for this post came whilst writing a short guide on the importance of the Google Business listing for local businesses and how the listing can help a business to get onto the first page of Google’s search results.

Google My Business Research

I had started to research businesses in Upminster – at this point I should probably explain why I chose Upminster. Growing up in Rainham, my nearest ‘large’ town was Upminster so I’d spent quite a bit of time here, either shopping, getting my hair cut or picking up a Chinese Take-Away on a Friday or Saturday night after the pubs closed.

My research started with the brick and mortar businesses in Corbets Tey Road, starting from the parade of shops that includes Londis. As I worked my way through the shops I was surprised to find so many where either their Google business remained unclaimed by the business owner or the information on the listing was incomplete.

One of the most powerful local SEO strategies a business can use to improve their local search rankings is to claim and optimise their Google My Business listing

According to the Office of National Statistics there were 9,690 businesses registered in Havering in 2018. Judging by the limited amount of research that I did I’m guessing that there are a fair few businesses that could benefit from claiming or updating their Google Listing.

And that’s important because one of the most powerful local SEO strategies a business can use to improve their local search rankings is to claim and optimise their Google My Business listing. And the best thing about it is that it won’t cost you a penny.

In my guide I explain the benefits of a well-managed Google Business listing. I explain how to claim yours and then how to keep it fresh and updated with content that will help your business to stand out.

I also explain the dangers of not claiming your business listing so don’t waste any time. Download my guide today and start optimising your listing to get your business more customers or clients.
